biography

Jo Knight’s communications journey began at Duke University where she produced an on-campus live call-in show raising awareness about student health issues. Having caught the television production bug, she further honed her shooting, editing and production skills at a local news station in Raleigh, NC, and later at CNN in Atlanta. She helped produce a variety of long-format and daily news stories for shows including Earth Matters, CNN & Fortune, Moneyline, and Larry King Live.

With a growing realization that she wanted to create change instead of just reporting it, She decided to shift her career toward helping nonprofits develop and implement communication strategies to better protect and conserve the environment. She led communication teams and projects for The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Marine Fish Conservation Network, The Nature Conservancy and the Ocean Conservancy, achieving success through thoughtful planning, creative thinking, and effective execution. During that time she produced videos and multimedia products that drove the right messages to their most important audiences.

Jo joined the consulting world as a vice president for Spitfire Strategies and provided strategic counsel, created communication plans, and developed targeted messaging for clients. Today, she enjoys helping her clients achieve positive social change through compelling visual stories, strategic communication planning, and creative outreach tools from her office in Washington, DC.
